Spaceships and horses… Two of my favorite things.

No, seriously.

Whenever I write sci-fi for too long, I start thinking about a number of things that draw me back to fantasy. One of them is the woods. The forest. It’s my favored terrain, I guess. Yes, that’s a Dungeons & Dragons reference.

Another is horses. I don’t even have any horses in my life right now, but somehow I still manage to think about them a lot. I don’t know what it is about those beautiful, majestic creatures, but sometimes I just get that itch.

And then, when I’m happily up to my eyeballs in swords and magic and horse manes flying in the wind…

Creaky metal decks, goofy tech, and power armor start to suck me back in. Also the ability to make jokes about anything that happened after 1800…

It’s not ideal flipping back and forth between genres. I hope some people enjoy both, but lots of others don’t. Not everyone that likes to read fantasy reads sci-fi, and vice versa. If you have a preference, leave it below in the comments!

For me, the heart wants what it wants, and the muse leads me where it will. I try to direct it, mostly to my own bitter failure. 😉 It can be almost as unpredictable as the weather.

I can’t believe April has flown by so quickly. That may be because of some unseasonally late snow here, in a place where unseasonally late snow is pretty common. So it’s felt a lot more like March or even February than April.

But it’s also because I’ve been so busy writing and untangling these books. I’ve also been working on a blog post for SFWA (Science Fiction & Fantasy Writers of America, although the name is changing to be more international) that I’ll be able to share when its through editing on how romance influences worldbuilding in sci-fi and fantasy. I had a fun time with that one!

ICYMI, last month I revealed the cover for the last book in the Audacity Saga, OATH OF DUTY. I’d also like to announce the pre-order is now available!

Tentative release date: September 6! Woo!

This date is not set in stone, I may end up having to move it forward or back, but I wanted to get it out there for those of you who would like to be sure not to lose track of the final book.

Believe me, I wish this book was in your hot little paws! But fortunately or unfortunately – this beast takes some wrestling! Or wrasslin’, as they say in the country. 😉 And these have been hard times for wrasslin’.

In other news, while I needed an easy break between these more complex books, I also penned a little novella set in the Enslaved Chronicles universe.

This somewhat long short story doesn’t have any of our classic OG characters, but it does have a similar vibe I think. It will take some time to get through edits and beta reading, and I want to put the full novels at a higher priority, but here is a snip of the cover for the time being:

1 of 2 horses in this novella

If you follow along on Facebook, this is one of the two horses I asked for names for a while back… The black one. You have to read to find out which one I picked, though, of course. 🙂

Next month, we’ll have more details on Clanblades… including a cover sneak peek.

Do you read just fantasy, just sci-fi, a mix of both, or lots of different genres?

Thank you as always for being a reader and a fan. If you’d like to support my ongoing writing efforts, you can buy me a coffee (or a horse, I guess, haha KIDDING) on Kofi.
